#MissionMoment: Vanessa and Nancy recently celebrated a major achievement, together in their careers and personal lives—graduating from the cosmetology program at Daytona State College. Both are Goodwill Scholar employee tuition scholarship recipients and co-workers at a Central Florida Goodwill store, and their success has been supported by Prosperity Planner Sandra Marrero.
Vanessa graduated with high honors, reflecting her dedication and commitment to excelling in the cosmetology field. Meanwhile, Nancy focused on strengthening her financial foundation by building her credit and saving money, which allowed her to achieve a significant milestone—renting her own place. In less than a year, Nancy made the progress necessary to secure her own rental, marking an important step toward greater independence.
The next stage for both Vanessa and Nancy involves preparing for their cosmetology license exams. In the meantime, they’ve already begun putting their skills to use. Recently, the two participated in a Back-to-School fashion show at a local Orlando Goodwill store, where they took on the responsibility of managing hair and makeup for the five models. Their performance demonstrated their growing expertise and confidence in their craft.
Looking ahead, Nancy is planning to further enhance her skills by starting a barbering program in August. As they prepare to enter the workforce as licensed professionals, Vanessa and Nancy are excited about their future in cosmetology and barbering, eager to apply their skills and knowledge to build lasting careers. Their journey highlights the impact of hard work, focused goals, and the support they’ve received through Goodwill Scholars and Prosperity Planning programs.
